After being injured during a gunfight with local police this week close to Sandia Resort & Casino, a guy is in serious condition in a hospital in New Mexico.
According to New Mexico TV station KOAT, Albuquerque, New Mexico, police officers noticed the suspect, 35-year-old Nicolas Roach, in the casino's parking lot on Tuesday night.
T here was an arrest warrant out for him, so authorities tried to halt his automobile using a grappler, which immobilizes a car after being latched onto a bumper.
Even with the gadget connected, Roach managed to avoid the cops and drag a police cruiser about thirty feet. After that, he allegedly drew a gun and started shooting at the officers.
Four police officers opened fire out of fear for their safety, wounded Roach, who was taken to a nearby hospital.
Hospitalized Suspect
Roach was classified in critical condition at the hospital as of Wednesday. His injuries were not described in detail.
After being released from the hospital, Roach, who has already been charged with alleged probation violations, will be booked at a local jail.
Police discovered a weapon and shell casings in the stolen vehicle Roach was driving.
The Albuquerque Journal said that when police checked Roach's record, they discovered that he had been arrested before for drug offenses, shoplifting, and auto theft. Roach received a nine-year prison sentence in February 2022. Last year, he was released from prison after six years of that sentence were suspended.
According to the Journal, Roach has reportedly been using methamphetamine, or meth.
When officers attempted to exit the car Tuesday night, two ladies who were in it with Roach leaped out. The Journal reports that 34-year-old Amanda Hand was charged with motor theft. Police did not identify the second lady they detained.
No Officers Were Hurt
Harold Medina, the chief of police in Albuquerque, stated that no officers were hurt in the police-involved shooting on Tuesday.
Police initially fired less-lethal bullets at Roach in an attempt to restrain him. Bullets were utilized later.
T he policemen who discharged their weapons at Roach were placed on paid administrative leave as authorities investigated the event in accordance with the department's established protocols. The review will reveal whether the officers' use of lethal force was appropriate in the particular situation.
